Getting accessible toilets right
A good accessible toilet is as much about where it goes as what it is.
Who needs one
Wheelchair users, people with limited mobility, parents with young children and anyone who needs a little more room all benefit.
At public events, the Equality Act 2010 expects organisers to make reasonable adjustments, and accessible toilets are one of the most common.
Where it goes
On firm, level ground with a step-free route to it. Grass that turns to mud after rain is the most common problem, so think about the path as well as the unit.
Keep it close to the main toilet block, not tucked away on its own.
At events
We recommend at least one accessible unit at every public event, and more for larger crowds. Our toilet calculator includes it in your numbers.
See event toilet hire for the full range.
On building sites
If anyone on site needs an accessible toilet, we add one to your site hire and service it on the same day as the rest.
